The Building Permit Process Building permits may be applied for in person at the Building Department within the Granby Town Hall or by mail. Hartland permit forms are also available on the Town of Granby Building Departments’ web page: www.granby-ct.gov, and can be downloaded from the site. If you would like to apply for a permit by mail you should call the Building Department first to verify the permit cost and any other information that may be needed. Depending on the project, generally a sketch or building plan may be required with the permit application. In the event that a proposed project is for a new building or expands beyond the footprint of the existing structure, applicants will be required to obtain prior approval from the Hartland Zoning and Wetlands Enforcement officer and the Farmington Valley Health District. After a building permit is issued, applicants are required to call the Granby Building Department to set up an appointment for the required inspections. A 24 hour notice is required to schedule inspections. The Building Department also requests at least a 48 hour notice for inspections to West Hartland due to the travel distance and other scheduling requirements.
Residents and contractors are encouraged to contact the Building Official if you have any questions regarding proposed construction projects
